Race City Motorpark + Social Club
A major new motorsports development is in the works just outside Mooresville, North Carolina.
Race City Motorpark + Social Club is a proposed 270-acre private motorsports destination that would transform the historic Mooresville Dragway property into a mixed-use automotive community. Plans include a 4-mile road course, restored dragstrip, garage condominiums, luxury townhomes, clubhouse, simulators, fitness center, pool, and event space.
Rather than replacing the historic facility with industrial or residential development, plans call for rebuilding it as a modern eighth-mile dragstrip while maintaining its place within North Carolina's racing heritage. The property itself has deep roots, with the current ownership assembling the site through a multi-year acquisition process that culminated in an $11.6 million purchase.
For Rowan County, local officials believe the development could become a significant tourism and economic driver, supporting nearby hotels, restaurants, and other businesses while reinforcing the region's identity as "Race City USA."
The project continues a growing trend of combining racetracks with real estate, hospitality, and private club amenities to create year-round destinations rather than standalone racing facilities.
What's particularly notable is the location. While many private motorsports clubs have emerged in resort markets or affluent suburbs, Race City is being planned in the heart of NASCAR country, surrounded by race teams, suppliers, manufacturers, and one of the deepest concentrations of motorsports expertise in the world.
If executed successfully, the project could become one of the strongest examples yet of motorsport real estate functioning as a mixed-use destination rather than simply a place to drive.
As zoning approvals move forward later this year, Race City Motorpark will be a project worth watching—not just for its track design, but for what it says about the future business model of motorsports developments in the United States.
